Resolution #33: Union Day of Solidarity and Rally
This resolution was passed by the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists at their 54th International Convention in Orlando, FL in June 2025.
WHEREAS:
The labor movement is rooted in the fight for justice, dignity, and collective rights for all working people, regardless of race, gender, immigration status, or background.
Policies advanced by President Donald J. Trump during his first and current administration have undermined union rights, threatened immigrant communities, attacked democratic institutions, rolled back civil liberties, and prioritized corporate interests over workers’ well-being.
These policies have contributed to growing inequality, racial and economic division, and a political climate hostile to solidarity and democracy.
Working people must unite to resist oppression and stand against attempts to divide or strip away hard-fought rights.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) calls upon the National AFL-CIO to organize a Union Day of Solidarity and Rally against Trump’s anti-worker, anti-labor, and anti-democratic policies. This rally will unite union members, allies, and community organizations to defend justice, equity, and democracy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
The solidarity day and rally will demonstrate collective resistance to anti-worker and anti-democratic agendas and serve as a call to action for a future rooted in solidarity, inclusion, and respect for all working people.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED:
CBTU commits to working with local and national partners to oppose policies threatening members and communities, and to build a united, organized, and fearless working-class movement.
